M.D. Anatomy is the specialized branch of medicine with duration of the
three years course that deals with the structure of the human body to acquire
mastery in dissection skills, embalming techniques, tissue preparation, staining and
mounting museum specimens.
After undergoing the training, the students should be competent enough to
correlate the clinical conditions, to analyse it critically, to perform common clinical
procedures, to handle emergency situations to meet the basic needs of the medical
community, problems related to the anatomy and recent advances and acquire
skills of integrating anatomy with other disciplines.
The post graduate student should also acquire qualities of a good teacher by
innovative teaching skills in teaching anatomy to medical and para medical
students and be able to integrate the teaching of Anatomy with other relevant
subjects, while being aware of her/his limitations. Acquire competencies to the
subject of anatomy through normal disposition of gross structure and their inter
relationship in the human body, to interpret the sequential development of organs
and systems with their congenital anomalies. Acquire knowledge in the principles
of gene therapy, ethics in genetics, comparative anatomy of the whole body and
basic human evolution, anthropological traits and use of related instruments,
Microscopic structure of various tissues and organs to correlate it with altered
disease processes, able to interpret various radio graphs and recent advances in the
above mentioned branches of anatomy to clinical practice.
The Department of Anatomy, Annapoorana Medical College and Hospitals,
Salem, since its establishment, has set a vision with high standards and goals to
acquire the competencies put forth by the NMC strictly complies with the laid
down NMC requirement. The department as a team is involved in innovative
methodology of teaching for the first year medical, nursing and allied health
science undergraduates. The recent teaching and learning methods are based on
Competency Based Medical Education, which is student-centric, employs various
innovative techniques to achieve the objectives of various domains like attitude,
communication skills, professionalism, practical and procedural skills.
AMCH provides well ventilated dissection hall with embalming facilities, to
preserve adequate number of cadavers, facilitating window dissection of important
regions and rich hands-on experience in learning practical skills in Anatomy.
Histology laboratory is well equipped with instruments like sledge microtome and
tissue processing units, which enable the PG students to prepare H&E slides.
Magnus binocular microscope with added pro software is available for enriched
learning experience in anatomy. Our Anatomy Museum is adequately displayed
with wet and dry specimens, 2D & 3D models, charts and with facilitates to learn
different museum techniques and model preparations. The department is facilitated
with spacious PG seminar hall, computer with audio visual aids, clinical teaching
materials, X-Rays, CT, MRI images and Library containing ample PG books and
updated latest journals for students benefit.
Research laboratory, Embryology laboratory, Neuroanatomy laboratory and
Anthropometry laboratory are readily accessible. For postgraduate trainee,
dedicated PG rooms are provided. Clinical postings with adequate hands on patient
experience and simulated skills lab experience are the highlights of MD Anatomy
program in AMCH.
The institution has a robust student mentoring program, and all the faculty of
the department is teacher guardians who guide students in their academic activities
for the overall development of the wards. The department encourages the students
