About the Department:
Department of Biochemistry was started in 2011. The Department has a student laboratory, demonstration hall with smart board facility and a seminar cum library room with textbooks and national and international journals on recent advances in Biochemistry and with well equipped PG research lab. The Department has qualified, well experienced and passionate faculty who are committed to inspire the students in academics as well as research. The Department has a well equipped Clinical Biochemistry laboratory attached to Annapoorana Medical College Hospital, which provides quality and timely reports to the various out and in patients attending AMCH.

AIM:
The goal of teaching post graduate is to develop sound knowledge in theory, practical and clinical biochemistry with ability to apply it in various fields of biochemistry.

About Biochemistry:
Chemical natures, functions, genetics, body fluids both normal and abnormal, molecular level knowledge, latest hi-tech equipments and their use.

VISION
To be recognized as a centre for excellence in Biochemistry that provides an atmosphere to acquire skills in identifying the link between biological and human resources and transform it to enhance the quality of life.

MISSION
To provide quality education to the students through state of art and education in biochemistry.
To provide a learning environment that helps the students to enhance problem solving skills and to prepare students to be lifelong learner by offering solid theoretical & practical foundation in various discipline of biochemistry and educating them about their professional and ethical responsibilities.
To provide exposure to students to the latest tools and technologies in the area of biochemistry.
To provide research based projects activities in the emerging area of biochemical technology.
To identify local and global issues that need intervention by a Biochemist, and develops intelligent strategies and biochemical approaches in problem solving methods.
To develop the man resource with sound knowledge theory & practical in the disciple of biochemistry and the ability to apply knowledge to the benefit of the society at large.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITES FOR POST GRADUATE:
The Postgraduate students should attend Lectures & practical classes taken by the faculty of the Institute during the first year of their along with I M.B.B.S. students.

During the second year of their study, they should actively involve in performing routine biochemical investigations and special tests in analytical lab.

During the third year of the study, they should complete their dissertation study.

Seminars, Short topic presentation & Journal Clubs
The department conducts Weekly Journal Clubs analyzing a particular Journal Topic related to clinical biochemistry presented by a post graduate student and moderated by a faculty of the department.

The department involves postgraduate students in Weekly Seminars, Short topic discussions and encourages them to participate in national conferences to present short title papers in national conferences.

Maintenance of Log Book:
Every Post-graduate student maintains a log book as a record of skills acquired during the training period.
Dissertation:
All post graduate students, as part of the curriculum, are assigned a topic of clinical interest for dissertation by the Professor in order to learn, design, conduct research studies, interpret data and perform statistical analysis of data .

UNDER GRADUATE: (Teaching Methodology)
The undergraduate training of the department includes various teaching modules which are interactive and student friendly, to trigger interest in the concepts of biochemistry. It includes -

AETCOM (Attitude, ethics and communication),
SGT (Small Group Teaching),

OSPE/clinical case studies.
The faculties do provide additional academic support for slow learners and feedback is regularly given to students on their performance in examinations.
